American Woman Adopted Bulgarian Child with No Shank and no Foot; She Fell in Love with 5-year Old Elina's Eyes

Telegraph Newspaper, March 24, 2010, Ivelina Dragneva

Heavy inborn lower limb anomaly: lack of right shank and left foot - this is 5-year old girl's hair-rising diagnosis. Little Elina was placed with home for children deprived from parent's cares when she was just few days old.

Good Luck
One year ago Elina's data were filed with Intercountry Adoption Register. Thus the future American mother became aware of girl's story.

'My social worker provided me with information about Elina some months ago. I saw her picture and realized she was my daughter. I fell in love with her eyes and smile'. This is how the adoptive mother describes the emotion the 5-year-old girl made her experience.

Now the adoption procedure is over. This Saturday little Eli and her mother are going to fly early morning to the United States.

Suspense
But Elina's case is the happy one. In our country another 1.188 children with heavy medical conditions are waiting to be adopted by foreigners. The children suffer from cerebral paralysis, Down syndrome and are late with their psychical and physical development. Many of them are already 7-year old and have almost no chance to be adopted.

'Despite all, last year 44 ill children found their families, explained for Telegraph Daniela Masheva, Deputy Minister of Justice, after a conference, dedicated to procedure for taking special measures for adoption of children with heavy physical conditions. Father she said there were some developments for these 1.188 children, who had no chances to be adopted prior to law amendment: for 66 children consent has been given for intercountry adoption, for 21 procedures have been opened and for 78 applications have been filed, while the remaining children are still waiting for their chances.
